Why We Built InspectorPrime on Airtable

The reasoning behind our platform choice — and what it means for inspection businesses who want control, flexibility, and a proven foundation.

When we set out to build InspectorPrime, we made a decision early on that has shaped everything since: we would not build a proprietary database platform. We would build on top of one that already existed, was already trusted by hundreds of thousands of organizations, and was already connected to the tools businesses use every day.

That platform is Airtable.

What Airtable is — and isn't

Airtable is often described as a "spreadsheet-database hybrid," which undersells it. It's a flexible relational database with a polished interface, a robust automation engine, a large ecosystem of native integrations, and a proven enterprise-grade backend.

It is not a startup experiment. Airtable has been in operation since 2012, has raised over $1.3 billion in funding, and is used by organizations ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. When you build on Airtable, you're building on a mature, well-funded, actively developed platform.

Why this matters for inspection businesses

Your data is genuinely yours

When InspectorPrime runs in your Airtable workspace, the data is in your account — not ours. You control the permissions, the backups, and the export. We have no access to your data unless you explicitly grant it to us for a support session.

This is not how most inspection software works. Most SaaS platforms hold your data on their infrastructure. You access it through their interface, under their terms. If they change their pricing, change their features, or go out of business, you're at their mercy.

100+ integrations come standard

Airtable has native integrations with Slack, Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Zapier, Make, and dozens of others. These integrations are already built — you don't need custom development to connect InspectorPrime to the tools your business already uses.

The automation engine is powerful

Airtable's automation engine lets you build conditional workflows, send automated emails and notifications, update records based on triggers, and connect to external services — all without writing code. InspectorPrime comes with a library of pre-built automations tuned for inspection workflows, and you can extend them as your business grows.

You're not locked into our roadmap

With proprietary software, your feature requests go into a queue. Whether or not they get built depends on the vendor's priorities, their engineering capacity, and whether enough other customers want the same thing.

With InspectorPrime on Airtable, you're not waiting for us to build something. If you need a custom workflow, a new report format, or an integration with a tool we haven't connected yet — we can build it. Custom development is available at $200 per hour, and Airtable's flexibility means most requests are straightforward.

The cost structure is honest

Airtable's Business plan costs approximately $54 per month, billed directly by Airtable to you. That is your only recurring cost after purchasing InspectorPrime.

We don't mark up Airtable's pricing. We don't take a cut of your subscription. You pay Airtable directly, you own the workspace, and we have no ongoing financial relationship with you unless you engage us for custom development or training.

A platform that will outlast vendor risk

One of the least-discussed risks in business software is vendor viability. Small inspection software companies — like small software companies in any vertical — come and go. If your software vendor shuts down, you lose your system and your data simultaneously.

By building InspectorPrime on Airtable, we've separated the platform risk from the application risk. Even if InspectorPrime as a company were to cease operating, your Airtable workspace remains intact. Your data is yours. The automations continue running. You can hire any Airtable developer to continue supporting and extending your system.

That's a form of resilience that proprietary software simply cannot offer.
